Entry and stay conditions for travelers
On May 5 Mongolian government decided not to open the country's border until June 1. At its regular meeting on May 5, the Cabinet extended the closure of road and railroad checkpoints to passenger movement until May 31. There are plans to reopen the air border in phases and resume regular flights with countries that mutually accept certificates of vaccination and negative COVID-19 test result. The Cabinet also allowed the State Emergency Commission to reopen Altanbulag-Khiagt and Zamyn-Uud-Ereen road checkpoints to passenger movement in phases after reaching agreements with Russia and China on mutual acceptance of certificates of vaccination and negative COVID-19 test result and enable fully vaccinated citizens to cross the border first [source]
In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Mongolia, the following measures in accordance with the “Temporary regulation on quarantine measures” were approved by the Head of the State Emergency Commission of Mongolia on April 2, 2021 [source]
- All persons traveling to Mongolia to present negative coronavirus “COVID-19” PCR test result which is taken within 72 hours before arrival.
- All persons arriving to Mongolia who have not been fully vaccinated against coronavirus infection (COVID-19) shall be quarantined at designated facilities for 7 days and PCR tests shall be taken on the 3rd and 6th days.
- Quarantine will end if there are no symptoms and the results of PCR tests are negative.
- In case PCR test results are positive, an individual shall be transferred to a hospital for treatment.
- Persons arriving to Mongolia 14 days after receiving the full dose of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine or those who were diagnosed earlier with a coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and fully recovered from it shall be exempted from quarantine.
Ease of restrictions
On May 5 Government decided to downgrade the country’s coronavirus emergency regime level of current Red Level down to Orange Level starting from May 8 until June 5. Under the Orange Level regime, complete or partial heightened state of readiness is declared and operations of public and private organizations and individuals are restricted to a certain extent depending on the situation.
